- 2021: 14/16 with M1 Pro or M1 Max
- 2023: 14/16 with M2 Pro/Max, then 14 M3 and 14/16 M3 Pro/Max
- 2024: 14 M4 and 14/16 M4 Pro/Max
- 2025: 14 M5
- 2026: 14/16 M5 Pro or M5 Max
We need screen size, full model/year and the chip shown in About This Mac. “14-inch M3 Pro” can still omit information needed for the correct board or part. A serial number confirms identity, but do not post it publicly. For the 2025 M5 and 2026 M5 Pro/Max machines, each part must be checked for actual availability.
Before testing: when to stop
If the battery is swollen, the screen is lifting, one area becomes unusually hot or there are signs of liquid, do not charge or keep trying to power on. Turn the device off if you can do so safely and arrange an inspection. Do not press a lifted screen or touch loose glass.
Power and startup
For no power, remove accessories and test the correct adapter/cable. MagSafe and USB-C give useful test paths on generations that support them, but one port failing to charge does not identify the failed component. Hold Power/Touch ID for about 10 seconds. Do not apply Intel SMC resets: these are Apple-silicon Macs. Use Apple Diagnostics from startup options with Command-D when the Mac can reach it.
Display, battery and cooling
- For a black screen, note sound, backlight, trackpad response and external-display output.
- For slow charging or short runtime, test the adapter, cable, ports, battery condition and power use.
- A swollen battery means shutdown, no charging and safe replacement; do not press the case flat.
- For fans or heat, separate normal workload from sensor, cooling or board faults.
- Keyboard and trackpad are also inspected for liquid; assemblies are not replaced from a symptom alone.
Liquid, firmware and files
After liquid, shut down, disconnect power and avoid rice, heat and repeated startups. For rare firmware cases, revive does not erase; restore does. State that data is the priority, back up when safe, and avoid erasing or reinstalling before assessment. On Apple silicon, recovery and repair depend on board condition; there is no universal removable or upgradeable SSD promise. Revive is not a backup: an existing board or storage fault can still put files at risk. If the data is your priority, tell us before any work.
