A swollen MacBook battery is physical cell damage, not an error fixed by calibration, an SMC reset or a programmer. Do not keep compressing or charging it for testing.

Signs of a swollen battery
- The trackpad is hard to click or has lifted.
- The bottom cover is bowed, has uneven gaps or no longer sits flat.
- The case or keyboard has lifted without impact damage.
- The Mac rocks on a table or the bottom panel looks stressed.
What to do now
- Shut the MacBook down completely and disconnect the charger.
- Do not press the case or trackpad back into place.
- Do not puncture, bend or remove the battery with improvised tools.
- Keep it away from heat and do not place it in household waste.
- Transport it carefully to a repair provider for safe removal and recycling.
Programmer or new battery?
For a swollen battery, replacement is the answer. BMS programming is relevant only to certain communication faults when the cells are stable and the pack is not deformed. It cannot make a swollen cell safe.
Why you should not postpone it
Pressure can damage the trackpad, keyboard, case and internal cables. Damaged cells can overheat, vent, leak or cause a thermal event; Apple warns about these risks when battery cells are damaged.

Arrange safe replacement and recycling
Send the exact model and a side photo of the case. We confirm battery availability and keep the removed pack separate for proper recycling.

FAQ3
Can I use the MacBook if the battery is only slightly swollen?
We do not recommend it. Shut down, unplug and arrange replacement; swelling is physical damage.
Can a swollen battery be deflated or repaired?
Not safely. A swollen battery is replaced and recycled correctly.
Will battery replacement erase my data?
Normally no. If the device is safe to operate, back up first; do not power it only for a backup when deformation is severe.
