Dell 8FC8 BIOS password: models and recovery

8FC8 is the four-character ending after the dash on a Dell BIOS password screen. It is part of the device code, not the recovery password. Use the complete on-screen code to check recovery options.

Dell Latitude 5400 (2019): check the screen, not the model

The Latitude 5400 is a 2019 model, but the model name does not select a password route. Use this service only when opening F2 BIOS Setup asks for an Admin password and the complete on-screen System Number ends in -8FC8. Some Latitude 5400 examples show -CF1B instead. Read the System Number on the password screen, not only the Service Tag label. Open the CF1B guide if that is the ending on your screen.

Where to find the full BIOS code

  1. Read the System Number on the Dell Admin password screen, sometimes headed Dell Security Manager. Use the screen rather than only the Service Tag sticker.
  2. For example, XXXXXXX-8FC8 has two parts: enter XXXXXXX in the code field and choose 8FC8 as the suffix. Do not add the ending twice.
  3. If the code is missing or unreadable, send support a photo of the password screen before ordering. Send the screen photo on WhatsApp.

A Windows sign-in, BitLocker recovery key or HDD password is a different request. Compare the password screens.

Check the screen before continuing

For an Admin password that prevents changes to Dell BIOS settings. Not for System/power-on, Windows, drive or BitLocker passwords. Online service: no device shipping or remote access to your files. Recovery password for access to Dell BIOS settings and a PDF guide, sent by email after payment.

FAQ3
Is there a universal BIOS master password for Latitude 5400 with 8FC8?

No. Latitude 5400 is the model and 8FC8 is only the suffix on some password screens; neither is a universal password. Check the complete System Number from your own Admin/Setup screen. Read why Dell has no universal default BIOS password.

Can I choose the suffix from the laptop model?

No. The same model can show different endings. Use the suffix on your own password screen, even when your model appears in another guide.

What if there is no recovery option for my code?

Check the full code and the type of password first. Dell Support can advise on recovery after verifying ownership; for a company-managed laptop, ask the IT administrator. Master Password Lockout can prevent reset by recovery password.
