iPhone won't charge: cable, Lightning/USB‑C port, battery or board?

If an iPhone won’t charge, it’s not always the battery. Check cable, charger, Lightning or USB‑C port and Liquid Detected messages. NEXX GSM is an independent shop — not an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

In this guide

1. Quick checks

  • Another Lightning or USB‑C cable and charger (ideally original / MFi / certified).
  • Wall outlet, not only PC USB — some ports supply weak current.
  • If MagSafe / wireless works, the issue is more likely cable / port.
  • Note: must hold cable, hot socket, “Accessory not supported”, “Liquid Detected”.
  • Force restart — sometimes unblocks a software charging glitch.

2. When it's cable, Lightning/USB‑C port, battery or board

  • Cable: charges only one way, cracked jacket, burnt smell — replace cable.
  • Port: cable falls out, one USB‑C orientation only, loose socket — port / flex.
  • Battery: swelling, sudden shutdown at low % — see battery guide.
  • Board: no charge after cleaning + good cable, wireless dead, after liquid.
  • Liquid Detected — see liquid guide; don't force the cable.

3. What NOT to do

  • Don't force cable into wet port or with Liquid Detected.
  • No metal needles or knives in Lightning/USB‑C port.
  • Don't charge with melted, hot or very cheap no-name cable.
  • Don't open the iPhone at home without experience.
  • Don't assume “just the battery” without cable and port tests.

4. When to book diagnostics

  • We check Lightning/USB‑C port, flex, charging IC and battery.
  • Independent service — not Apple Authorized; parts per diagnostics.
  • Estimate on request; exact cost and timing after inspection — no made-up prices.
  • WhatsApp us your iPhone model and symptoms before visiting.

Check your device generation too

Your model determines whether you use Lightning or USB-C and which cable and port checks apply. iPhone 12–18 models and guides.

Match the check to the model’s connector

The iPhone 12 family uses Lightning, while the iPhone 15 family uses USB-C. The exact model tells you which cable and port to test; working wireless charging does not identify the failed part by itself.

FAQ5
Why won't my iPhone charge at all?

Cable/charger, dirty or worn port, degraded battery, charging circuit or oxidation after liquid. Try another cable + outlet; if not — diagnostics.

iPhone charges only a few seconds — what now?

Unstable contact, thermal protection or very flat battery. Gentle port clean + another cable; if it persists — shop visit.

Lightning vs USB‑C on iPhone — does cable matter?

Yes. iPhone 15+ uses USB‑C; older models Lightning. Cable must be compatible and deliver enough wattage (PD where needed).

MagSafe works but cable doesn't — is it the port?

Almost certainly — wireless is a separate circuit. Likely port, flex or cable, not necessarily battery.

Do you repair iPhones without Apple warranty?

Yes — we're independent, not Apple Authorized. Options after diagnostics; no fixed online price.
