iPhone 14 repairs: Plus and Pro need different checks

The iPhone 14 family combines two dual-camera phones and two three-camera Pro phones. Before a quote, identify the model and what the drop actually affected: glass, picture, frame, Face ID and cameras can fail separately.

14, Plus, Pro or Pro Max?

• 14 Plus is large but is not Pro Max; that changes the required screen and camera assembly.
• 14 Pro and Pro Max also have Dynamic Island, but the model number is the safer check.
• Make a backup before service if the phone responds normally.

Apple lists iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max as 2022 models. Pro models have three rear cameras, while 14 and 14 Plus have two; size alone does not distinguish every version. Confirm it in Settings and on Apple's page.

Before testing: when to stop

If the battery is swollen, the screen is lifting, one area becomes unusually hot or there are signs of liquid, do not charge or keep trying to power on. Turn the device off if you can do so safely and arrange an inspection. Do not press a lifted screen or touch loose glass.

A five-minute post-drop check

• On white and black backgrounds, look for lines, patches, flicker and dead touch zones.
• Test Face ID once, plus the call speaker, microphone and proximity sensor.
• Open every available camera and check near and distant focus; do not hit the phone to “unstick” it.

Battery, Lightning and liquid

• Do not use damaged cables or put metal objects into Lightning.
• After liquid, do not charge, heat or use rice; follow the immediate liquid steps.
• If the screen lifts or the housing separates, stop using it because internal pressure may be present.

An iPhone 14 that shuts down under load may have battery wear, but heat or restarts need broader checks. For charging, follow Apple's cable, adapter and port steps before assuming the connector must be replaced.

Prepare the phone for inspection

• We inspect the complete assembly before quoting; broken camera glass does not prove the camera module has failed.
