Tablet won't charge: cable, port, battery or charging board?

Tablet won’t charge (Samsung Tab, iPad or others)? Same causes as phones — cable, port, large degraded battery or charging circuit — but charger wattage matters more (10–20W+).

1. Quick checks

  • Another cable and charger with enough wattage (iPad often 20W+, Tab similar).
  • Wall outlet — PC USB is often too weak for tablets.
  • iPad: Lightning or USB‑C by model; check for lightning bolt icon.
  • Samsung Tab: USB‑C PD; try both orientations.
  • Note: must hold cable, hot socket, intermittent charge.

2. When it's cable, port, battery or charging board

  • Cable: one position only, cracked jacket — replace.
  • Port: lint, bent pin, oxidation — clean or socket.
  • Battery: very short runtime + won't hold charge — large tablet cell.
  • Charging board: no response after clean + good cable, drop on jack.
  • iPad “accessory not supported” — try MFi / original cable.

3. What NOT to do

  • Don't force cable into dirty port or after liquid.
  • No metal in port — deep sockets, short risk.
  • Don't use weak phone charger for hours “to make it work”.
  • Don't open tablet at home — large batteries, adhesive, fragile flexes.
  • Don't assume dead board without proper wattage test.
