A laptop returns to IT without its BIOS password. Or a retirement check finds a batch of Dell laptops with locked firmware settings. Before shipping working hardware to a repair shop or accepting an offer for locked stock, identify the password type and whether code-based recovery is available.
When the laptop can stay in your office
NEXX GSM helps companies recover Dell BIOS access for supported on-screen codes. You check compatibility and price, receive a recovery password and instructions, and have your IT technician carry out the steps on the device. In a compatible case, no packing, courier or return shipment is needed. Remote support does not mean signing into a locked Windows session: someone with physical access to the Dell is still required.
Identify the lock before choosing the service
- Admin / Setup Password: BIOS changes are restricted; Windows may still start.
- System Password: a password is requested before the operating system starts.
- HDD / SSD, BitLocker, Windows or Intune / Autopilot: separate issues. BIOS password recovery does not remove encryption or company management.

Employee offboarding: a handover checklist
- Record the return, confirm company ownership and obtain approval from the responsible IT owner.
- Record the asset ID, model, password prompt type and complete on-screen code. Keep the label Service Tag in a separate field.
- Before changes, confirm backups and access to the BitLocker recovery key. Do not clear the TPM by guesswork: firmware changes can trigger recovery.
- After recovery, test access to the required settings and boot. Store the new credential in the company vault and document the work in the ticket.
- Prepare the OS, accounts and policies for the next employee through your normal deployment process. BIOS access is only one part of handover.

Retirement and resale: assess recovery before a write-down
A locked BIOS leaves a buyer uncertain about configuration and deployment in their environment. Before accepting a lock-related discount, compare recovery cost with actual offers for the same device in locked and prepared condition. There is no fixed resale uplift: model, condition and buyer demand all matter.
- After recovery, test the equipment and record its actual condition in the handover record.
- Sanitize storage separately under company policy. BIOS recovery is not data erasure or a certificate of destruction.
- For an external transfer, complete the company-management offboarding process. Microsoft documents Windows Autopilot deregistration separately; BIOS access does not replace it.

Dell BIOS suffixes: 8FC8, E7A8 and other supported codes
The current code-based recovery catalogue includes: 8FC8 · E7A8 · 595B · D35B · 2A7B · A95B · 1D3B · 6FF1 · 1F66 · 1F5A · BF97. A suffix is the last group in a code such as XXXXXXX-8FC8, not a recovery password. This is a format example, not a real device identifier.
- Submit the complete value from the password screen, not just the suffix or the Service Tag on the case.
- Latitude, Precision or another family name does not establish compatibility: check each device.
- Ask separately about other suffixes. The code checker shows current availability and price before payment.

For one Dell, enter its complete on-screen BIOS code and your work email in the checker. If recovery is available, review the price before continuing to an order. For card / PayPal orders, the recovery password and instructions arrive by email. Windows reinstallation and storage wiping are not included.

Prepare an inventory with asset ID, model, password type, on-screen code and intended outcome: redeployment or resale. Agree scope, pricing and timing with support first. A description of the issue is enough to start the conversation; do not send disk dumps, employee passwords or BitLocker recovery keys.

Can you help if the former employee cannot be reached?
A supported recovery case does not require the employee’s original password. You need authority to service the company device, its exact on-screen code and a compatibility check.
Do we have to ship the laptops to NEXX GSM?
Not for supported code-based recovery. Your technician works on the device at your location using the supplied instructions. Other cases are assessed separately.
Can we sell the laptop immediately afterwards?
Complete hardware checks, data sanitization and company-management offboarding first. BIOS recovery restores access; it does not replace the rest of resale preparation.
Is there one price and turnaround time for a whole batch?
A batch can contain different suffixes and lock types. Scope, pricing and timing need to be agreed after reviewing the device inventory.
